Target shooting at televisions from the comfort of Billy Poteet's recliners comes to an abrupt halt when he and Fiona Tate discover a body full of bullet holes behind the outdoor targets. Though Fiona and Billy are soon cleared of the man's murder, suspicion next falls on Fiona's estranged husband, Eyeball, a remodeling contractor who doesn't like to measure. Determined to clear her husband's name, despite her certainty that he's "fornicating with outside women," Fiona decides to look into the killing. Her investigation uncovers misery the likes of which she thought she'd never see in her small Georgia mountain community and doesn't end until after two more people are dead.

Each chapter of Redneck Tarot begins with a description of a Redneck Tarot card and the divination to be gleaned from that card from Aunt Fiona's Redneck Tarot deck.
